Description
This program will review the foundation of and statistics related to health literacy/numeracy. Health literacy components are multifactorial and include oral, eHealth and print literacy as well as cultural and conceptual knowledge. With the various medication delivery options, technology devices, and essential skills needed for dose calculations, people with diabetes can be directly impacted. Various tools and approaches will be shared to help diabetes care and education specialists navigate health literacy for optimal success.
Learning Outcome
Diabetes care and education specialists will develop awareness of various health literacy considerations especially as it relates to diabetes and apply health literacy sensitive approaches when working with people with diabetes.

At the end of this presentation,
participants will be able to:
• Define health literacy
• Describe the various ways health literacy can impact people with diabetes
• Name one approach that can be used to communicate with a health literacy sensitive approach

for people with diabetes and other related conditions.
