Description
Cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome is a newly recognized term that is used to describe the overlapping relationship between cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. These related comorbidities remain among the leading causes of death. With more than 25% of US adults estimated to meet the criteria for CKM syndrome, there is an urgent need for effective prevention and management strategies.
Learning Outcome
This program will provide an overview of CKM syndrome's stages, equipping the diabetes care and education specialist with the essential knowledge to support multidisciplinary teams and take an active role in preventing and managing associated comorbidities.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Verbalize an understanding of CKM syndrome and the resulting risk continuum.
• Express an understanding of the stages of CKM syndrome and the corresponding management strategies.
• Describe their role in preventing and managing CKM-associated comorbidities as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
