Join us for a two-day, in-person course in the vibrant city of Chicago, designed for healthcare professionals committed to advancing their expertise in diabetes prevention and lifestyle coaching. This immersive program, led by an ADCES Master Lifestyle Coach trainer, combines interactive learning with online self-study modules as pre-work. Participants will delve into the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP), gaining the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively implement and facilitate CDC-recognized lifestyle change programs. The course features hands-on activities, including case studies, group facilitation techniques, and role-playing exercises, ensuring participants are equipped to drive positive health behavior change in their communities.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Describe the evidence base of the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) and its translation into the National DPP and PreventT2.
Define the role of a lifestyle coach and compare it with other diabetes education professionals.
Identify participant eligibility criteria and outcomes for the National DPP.
Review and utilize PreventT2 materials to support skill-building and psychosocial development.
Diagram and apply core and maintenance sessions of PreventT2 to facilitate effective group sessions.
Practice lifestyle coaching and group facilitation techniques to enhance participant engagement and retention.
Identify how to meet National Diabetes Prevention Program Recognition Standards.
Discuss the national landscape of the diabetes prevention program, including coverage by various payers.

Activity Type

This is a knowledge-based activity. This 12-hour in-person course includes online prework, lecture, participant presentations, discussion, and question and answer periods.

Intended Audience

At this time, the CDC does not list specific educational or credential requirements, in order to participate in a Lifestyle Coach training. ADCES does require that participants are familiar with the CDC's National Diabetes Prevention Program. The ADCES DPP Lifestyle Coach Training program prepares individuals facilitate the CDC's Prevent T2 curriculum within a CDC-recognized Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP).

Ms. Carson currently serves as the Coordinator for Community Health at Advocate Christ Medical Center and serves as a Master Trainer for the South Region of the Advocate Aurora Health System. In this current role she serves as the lead coordinator for the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) for three hospitals. Currently she is bringing awareness about the program through building relationships with community organizations, health departments and the faith community.

Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)

CDR Credentialed Practitioners will receive 12 Continuing Professional Education unit(s) (CPEU) for completion of this activity.
Completion of this RD/DTR profession-specific or IPCE activity awards CPEUs (One IPCE credit = One CPEU). If the activity is dietetics-related but not targeted to RDs or DTRs, CPEUs may be claimed which are commensurate with participation in contact hours (One 60 minute hour = 1 CPEU. RDs and DTRs are to select activity type 102 in their Activity Log. Sphere and Competency selection is at the learner’s discretion.

Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB)

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. The Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive 12 continuing education credits.

Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (CDCES)

To satisfy the requirements for renewal of certification for the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education (CBDCE), continuing education activities must be diabetes related and approved by a provider on the CBDCE list of Approved Providers (www.cbdce.org). CBDCE does not approve continuing education. The Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists is on the CBDCE list of Approved Providers.

Board Certified Advanced Diabetes Management (BC-ADM)

ADCES is the administering body for the Advanced Diabetes Management credentials. Continuing education programs offered by ADCES can be used toward fulfilling BC-ADM Certification and recertification requirements.

Other Health Professionals

It is the responsibility of each participant to determine if the program meets the criteria for re-licensure or recertification for their discipline.

Successful Completion

To receive a Statement of Credit and Lifestyle Coach Certificate, you must complete the online prework, participate in the two-day in-person training, do the assigned presentation, pass the post-test, and submit the required course evaluation. Your Statement of Credit and Lifestyle Coach Certificate will be issued digitally in your learning portal upon submission of the evaluation. Information about claiming your Digital Badge will be provided in the course information.

Refunds

ADCES will provide refunds (less a $200.00 administrative fee) for registrations cancelled through September 5. No refunds will be issued starting September 6. To receive a refund, please submit your written request to ADCES Meeting Services at [email protected]. All refunds are processed within 30 days of receipt.
