The course is a 5-week online course that includes online self-study modules and 5 conference calls. The program is facilitated by an ADCES Master Lifestyle Coach trainer. Coursework includes:

Learning Objectives

At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:

Recognize the evidence base and key strategies from the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) Study and its application in the National DPP and PreventT2.
Define the role of a lifestyle coach in CDC-recognized programs and differentiate it from other diabetes education roles.
Describe participant eligibility and outcomes and utilize PreventT2 materials for skill-building and psychosocial development.
Practice and refine group facilitation and coaching strategies to enhance participant engagement and behavior change.
Discuss strategies for participant engagement and retention and understand the standards for achieving National Diabetes Prevention Program Recognition.

Activity Type:

The five-week application-based activity includes eight self-study modules and five mandatory Zoom conference discussions and activities. An integral part of the course is the opportunity to practice group facilitation techniques through participant presentations.

Intended Audience

At this time, the CDC does not list specific educational or credential requirements, in order to participate in a Lifestyle Coach training. ADCES does require that participants are familiar with the CDC's National Diabetes Prevention Program. The ADCES DPP Lifestyle Coach Training program prepares individuals facilitate the CDC's Prevent T2 curriculum within a CDC-recognized Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP).

	Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) CDR Credentialed Practitioners will receive 12 Continuing Professional Education unit(s) (CPEU) for completion of this activity. Completion of this RD/DTR profession-specific or IPCE activity awards CPEUs (One IPCE credit = One CPEU). If the activity is dietetics-related but not targeted to RDs or DTRs, CPEUs may be claimed which are commensurate with participation in contact hours (One 60 minute hour = 1 CPEU. Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB)

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. The Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive 12 continuing education credits.

Successful Completion

To receive a Statement of Credit and Lifestyle Coach Certificate, you must complete the ADCES DPP Lifestyle Coach course, participate in the Zoom sessions, do the assigned teach-back presentation, pass the post-test, and submit the required evaluation. Your Statement of Credit and Lifestyle Coach Certificate will be issued digitally in your learning portal upon submission of the evaluation.

Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists

To satisfy the requirements for renewal of certification for the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education (CBDCE), continuing education activities must be diabetes related and approved by a provider on the CBDCE list of Approved Providers (www.cbdce.org). CBDCE does not approve continuing education. The Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists is on the CBDCE list of Approved Providers.

Board Certified Advanced Diabetes Management (BC-ADM)

ADCES is the administering body for the Advanced Diabetes Management credentials. Continuing education programs offered by ADCES can be used toward fulfilling BC-ADM Certification and recertification requirements.

Other Health Professionals

It is the responsibility of each participant to determine if the program meets the criteria for re-licensure or recertification for their discipline.
