Hypoglycemia remains a common complication for people with diabetes. Davida F. Kruger, and Anne Peters, in collaboration with the Academy for Continued Healthcare Learning, developed a simple, systematic approach to quality improvement to ensure patients are prepared to prevent, recognize, and manage hypoglycemia.

New legislation, signed into law by President Biden on December 29, 2022, extends the public health emergency flexibilities that have allowed Accredited and Recognized DSMES programs to furnish Medicare beneficiaries with diabetes care and education via telehealth and receive reimbursement for those services through the end of 2024.

The pandemic has been a scourge for the ages. But crawling out from under the toxic mess have been three important positive changes to the way we serve the diabetes community: New and much better medications and technologies, better ways to deliver our services via remote/virtual means, and a new name.
