Greetings from our New Blogger, Amy Campbell

Hello to all our blog followers! I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Amy Campbell and this is my first blog entry on the AADE’s professional blog. I have been a blogger on the Diabetes Education Voices patient focused blog for the past couple of years, but sadly, it has been discontinued. If you were referring your patients to that blog, consider sending them to AADE's newest patient website: www.diabetesselfcare.org. Even though I'm sad about the patient blog ending, I'm looking forward to engaging in discussions with you, my colleagues!
What I love about the field of diabetes...is that it constantly changes. Every day there seems to be a new study, patient tool, or device released. It keeps things exciting and interesting. I hope to use my blog entries to discuss some of the latest studies, talk about new tools we can use in diabetes education, and spur discussion for educators.
Who am I? I am an RD, CDE. I can remember in middle school deciding I wanted to be a dietitian. It was on the heels of my beloved grandfather passing of a heart attack that I began my quest to learn all about the connection between lifestyle choices and disease conditions. I remember thinking that I wanted to do something essential to life- which would be a health career. I knew I wanted to work on the prevention side of things and try to prevent diseases and complications so that people could live long, healthy lives. The mantra that would repeat in my head was, “If you don’t have your health, what do you have?” When I was searching for a profession that fit all of my "wants," I discoverd dietetics. Any time I saw a quote from and article or a featured guest on a talk show they were an RD-- and my career path was started.
I love anything to do with healthy lifestyles, new products and gadgets, as well as technology. I work in a clinic setting at the health department in Lexington, Kentucky doing individual MNT and diabetes education. My other passion is photography. I am a professional wedding and portrait photographer- which I know is completely opposite from the nutritional biochemistry I studied in school!
I also just have a 8 month little boy (see the pic!), and I am learning how to be a parent.
So that’s me, in a nutshell. I look forward to future dialogue and posts and learning who *you* are and networking!
