Add AADE15 to your summer to-do list
Jun 8, 2015, 19:00 PM
As it is the first of June and summer is here, I would like to remind you to get started on your summer to-do list:
1. Get outside for more activity – work in the garden, explore parks, sign up for summer leagues
2. Improve eating habits – eat more veggies and lean meats, avoid those heavy fat laden winter foods
3. Find appropriate beach/swim wear that you can wear in public
4. Wax, tweeze, shave, pluck necessary body parts
5. Arrange for casual get-togethers and outings with family and friends
6. Make plans to attend AADE2015 this August
AADE2015 will be held in New Orleans. This year’s theme is Jazz it Up with Innovation and Engagement. Get ready for an exciting line up of keynote speakers – Wednesday morning kicks off with Susanna Fox, Entrepreneur in Residence at Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, who plans to set the meeting into motion by speaking on The “E” is For Engagement. Thursday we start the day with Kamal Jethwani, MD, MPH who will continue the theme by presenting Engaging Patients in Their Care Using Connected Health. Friday, Ann Albright, PhD, RD will share with us her exciting work at the CDC by presenting Diabetes Prevention and All that Jazz.
Each day will continue with a plethora of educational sessions which include Master Classes for those advanced practitioners, breakout sessions which will discuss practical application principles, and research sessions for those interested in learning more about new findings and how they can be applied to our clinical practice. Friday evening, the Corporate Symposia will host attendees at dinner programs promoting and educating us on their products and equipment which can make our patients’ lives better, easier and healthier. Do not forget to schedule time for the Exhibit Hall and Product Theaters where you can learn about the many products, services, technologies and foods which can enhance and improve our patients’ (and our) lives. I am always amazed and impressed by the level of commitment and enthusiasm these companies have in developing products and services for the individuals who live with the daily challenges of diabetes.
AND – plan some time to visit and explore the city of New Orleans. Rebounding from the devastating hurricane of 2005, the people, places, foods and music have come roaring back – bigger and better than ever. If you have a hankering for some of the best seafood in the South while listening to incredible jazz music, you will be in the right place. Start your diet now so you can have room to enjoy and engage in the unique culinary delights of New Orleans.

As a reminder – June is Men’s Health Month so take time to care for your favorite man and encourage him to improve his health by eating better, being more active and getting that annual health check-up.
