This webinar will help diabetes care and education specialists address and overcome psychosocial barriers in clinical practice, and be able to identify when a referral to a behavioral health specialist is appropriate. At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
-- Define current state of comorbid diabetes and mental illness
-- Describe common symptoms/causes of diabetes distress vs. depression
-- State empirically validated measures to assess psychosocial outcomes
-- Describe how addressing psychosocial barriers can improve clinical outcomes
-- Teach effective techniques in address behavioral health concerns
-- State appropriate times to refer to behavioral health provider
-- Identify key organizations available as resources for mental health issues
