Description
Clinical Aspects of Diabetes Education is a self-paced, 3-module online course that focuses on essential knowledge of diabetes needed by health care team professionals who interact with people with diabetes and related conditions, but whose primary focus is not diabetes. This course will enhance their ability to work with people with diabetes and will also serve as one of the first steps towards becoming a diabetes care and education specialist.
Learning Outcome
Health care professionals will report an increased knowledge of the current practices of providing safe, supportive, and effective care for people with diabetes and related conditions.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the pathophysiologic differences between type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes
- State the diagnostic criteria for diabetes and pre-diabetes
- Explain the application of clinical practice guidelines to daily practice
- Teach people with diabetes how to recognize and treat hypoglycemia
- Describe the signs, symptoms, treatment and prevention of acute and chronic complications
- List the risk factors for macrovascular disease
- Identify opportunities for diabetes education interventions for acute and chronic complications of diabetes

Intended Audience
This activity is designed for diabetes care and education specialists, including nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, physicians, PAs, social workers, and other health care providers interested in staying up to date on current practices of care for people with diabetes and other related conditions.
Course Completion
After you have completed the coursework, you will take the post-learning assessment. It has 30 multiple-choice questions. Your overall course completion will be based upon successfully passing the post-assessment with a score of 70% or better. You will get three (3) tries to pass the assessment.
After you successfully complete the post-learning assessment and evaluation, you will get access to a statement of credit, showing the CE credit you earned. Please print it for your records. (Note, you will be able to return to print it later, if needed.)
Access Period
You will have access to this learning activity for a period of six months after you enroll, or whenever the activity's CE credits expire (whichever comes first).
