Program Overview and Accreditation Information

Welcome to ADCES' Going to School with Type 1 Diabetes – Essential Insights & Strategies. Please read this page carefully.

Effective dates for CE credit: 8/1/2024 – 8/1/2026

Program Overview

In many schools, there is a critical gap in the availability of licensed nurses, leaving students with diabetes vulnerable when the nurse is unavailable. This course aims to equip school employees, in collaboration with parents/caregivers and the DCES, with the essential skills and knowledge to support students with diabetes. The course emphasizes the importance of understanding the specific needs of students with diabetes and schools' legal and ethical responsibilities in providing the necessary aids, services, support, and accommodations.

This course also includes a 45-minute video of the ADCES24 session titled “Learn Without Limits: Enhancing the Classroom Experience for Students with T1D.” While this video may serve as a refresher for those who have previously attended or watched the ADCES24 session, it is designed to complement and enhance the overall course content.

Learning Outcome

The goal of this course is to provide families/caregivers and schools with the necessary skills, knowledge, and resources to ensure the safety, well-being, and academic success of students with diabetes. By the end of this course, DCES will be able to educate, support, and guide parents and schools to foster an inclusive and supportive environment for students with diabetes.
