What is your hospital doing to facilitate patients’ use of insulin pumps during their hospital stay? Are you providing continuing education to staff to enhance the effectiveness of patient pump utilization and quality of care? Is the education mandated for any particular staff?

Perhaps the concept of weight loss as the primary goal is flawed. Even though there is efficacy for weight loss, the long term success rate is abysmal. Perhaps the goal should be more basic.

We, as diabetes educators, need to think about the possibility of a co-existing condition of eating disorders or intentional insulin omission when working with teens with type 1 diabetes.
