Medical ID available in both the App store and Google Play helps first responders access your critical medical information from the lock screen, without needing your passcode. They can see information like allergies and medical conditions as well as who to contact in case of an emergency

Using the free version of Medical ID, users can input their:

  • name and age
  • height and weight
  • medical conditions, including allergies
  • medications
  • blood type and donor status
  • any additional notes and emergency contacts.

Emergency responders can view the data with one tap on the lock screen. The free version of Medical ID also helps users find the nearest hospital using a GPS feature.

Using the paid version of Medical ID, Premium users can also:

  • send a text to emergency contacts with one tap
  • share their location with selected contacts
  • create multiple profiles (children, partners or care recipients)
  • customize the lock screen widget
  • back up data
  • access the latest version of the app as the developer updates it.

Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) is structured around seven diabetes self-care behaviors, known as the ADCES7 Self-Care Behaviors®. Diabetes care and education specialists can help you set priorities and work with you on improving your own management in each of the following areas:

  • Medical ID only works on Android devices.
  • For the location-based services to function, users must share their location with the app and be where GPS signals are unobstructed.

The Medical ID app does not share user information with third parties. The app does access user contacts and location and gains permission to send texts and place phone calls. View the Medical ID privacy policy.

People diagnosed with an intellectual or physical disability may benefit from having Medical ID on their Android device. The lock screen widget helps first responders quickly view the user’s medical data.

The app cannot:

  • be downloaded on Apple devices
  • display current glucose values
  • log or track diabetes data.

  • Lock screen widgets may disappear. Settings on the user’s Android device may need to be adjusted to fix the issue. Learn how on the Medical ID FAQ page.
  • Premium version is a one-time fee. Premium users can customize the default emergency alert message. The app sends the message to designated emergency contacts and can include:

    • first and last name
    • address
    • altitude
    • GPS location.
  • Users need to grant Medical ID access to their contacts to enter emergency contacts in the app. Learn how on the Medical ID FAQ page.
  • Users with diabetes may want to use the Medical Notes section of the app to input information about their insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor (CGM).

  • The Medical ID app is for patients with a chronic condition. Providers may recommend the app and encourage patients to actively prepare for a medical emergency.
  • At visits, when medical emergency plans are reviewed, care partners may want to ask patients if their Medical ID app information is current. They can also discuss updates the patient should make.

How Does the Medical ID App Benefit My Patients?
