Celebrating 50 Years
Recognizing diabetes care and education leadership five decades in the making
50 Years of Diabetes Care and Education
ADCES® advocates for better diabetes care. We support the person with diabetes and prediabetes. We are listeners, innovators, problem-solvers, decision-makers, leaders. We are diabetes care and education specialists.
Over the past 50 years, our roles have expanded. Today, we strive to be leaders and experts in diabetes technology and cardiometabolic care as we continue to have a positive impact on improving care for those we serve.
We asked some of our long-standing members and leaders to reflect on moments in our history that have had a profound effect on the specialty. Published in the August 2023 issue of ADCES's long-standing journal, The Science of Diabetes Self-Management and Care, they are:
Certification: A Transformational Trajectory in Practice by Deborah Hinnen, APN, BC-ADM, CDCES
Association- Industry Collaboration: 50 Years of Innovating Diabetes Care by Malinda Peeples, MS, RN, CDCES
Growing Up: A 50-Year Journey from Compliance to Collaboration by Martha Mitchell Funnell, MS, RN, CDCES
Technology: A Bridge Spanning People, Place, Time and Reality by Kathryn Godley, MS, FNP-BC
