Jammye McCutcheon Holmes, PharmD has been an ADCES® member for two years. She describes how membership has benefited her personal and professional life, and the valuable resources available with membership.
Why do you love being a member?
I am very grateful to ADCES for all the encouragement and help I have received in developing our DSME practice at Rock Creek Pharmacy. The staff members are simply amazing, and I feel very supported when questions arise. I believe that ADCES is a beacon of light to the diabetes community. I am so proud to be a member of such a wonderful organization.
What is your favorite part about being a diabetes care and education specialist?
I absolutely love seeing patients get excited about learning, and when they capture a pearl of wisdom or problem-solve a solution that makes my day! It is so rewarding to see them take their life back using the ADCES7 Self-Care Behaviors.
Top five ADCES resources/programs?
ADCES Annual Conference, ADCES In Practice, Living with Diabetes: Tools and Resources, The Science of Diabetes Self-Management and Care Journal, ADCES Education
What is one piece of advice you would give to a new diabetes care and education specialist or someone considering the profession?
I would tell anyone new to being a DCES or considering the profession to become a member of ADCES! As a new clinical coordinator, support is key. ADCES offers many resources via the website and the ADCES support team. There is always help available for questions or issues. I have been clinical coordinator for Rock Creek Pharmacy since July 2021 and am so very grateful to have such a wonderful network of clinicians to reach out to when needed. ACDES is the best!
